World Class Paranormal Trap

Allyson Su, Spring 2021

I learned how to create html pages, styled with css. I also learned new ways to generate ideas and pull from untraditional sources for inspiration. I learned how to use Glitch and Twine. I am glad I took this class, because it will help me customize my personal website even further. I now have the knowledge to create my own games and work on bigger projects.

I used Botnik to generate the game title, World Class Paranormal Trap, using the Video Game Names. I used Googlism for when we ask the shark where to go and the shark says: "The cafeteria is the chief meeting place for freshmen." I used N+7 for the student at the speed dating event who says, "Where is my shark?!" which turned into "Where is my sheep." I used Anagrams for the name, Allyson, which was the name of the girl at the eating contest. This turned into Sally No. I used Otter.ai for the lullaby song. I sang the first verse of the lullaby and put the final result after the user falls asleep in the end. For the crowdsourcing, I asked 10 people to give me their current favorite song title. I tried to combined the titles in the order I received them. If it was not a complete sentence, I switched the order slightly. I used the final result for the song that the shark sings.

I used charNG for my story of the three kids near the dumpster, which is the story of the three little pigs.
This is the original story:
There once was 3 little pigs. One built his house out of straw but got blown away by the wolf. Another built his house out of sticks. The smart and not lazy pig built his house out of bricks. In the end, all of their houses got destroyed except the brick pig.

The first Oblique Strategies card said, "Be dirty," which led my decision to make the goop swallow the user and become stinky for the rest of the game, with no other purpose. The second Oblique Strategies card said, "Emphasize repetitions." For this, I changed the number of chairs to 201 instead of 21. This happens somewhere near the beginning of the game. The third Oblique Strategies card said, "Distorting time," in which I used for one of the randomly generated rooms, the dumpster. This dumpster has special powers to bring the trash back to its normal, clean state, thereby distoring time. The fourth Oblique Strategies card said, "Imagine the piece as a set of disconnected events." With this, I disconnected the link between the gym and nurse's office. When you click to go to the gym, it takes you to the nurse's office. The fifth Oblique Strategies card said, "Take a break," which I implemented as one of the game outcomes. The green goop inside of the basement ironically smells good unlike the goop that is outside of the basement. The scent causes the user to fall asleep and take a break from the game.
